Christian Web News - According to the latest data from the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, 67% of registered voters would oppose public funding for abortion under the Obama administration’s health-care reform legislation.
Quinnipiac asked: “Do you support or oppose allowing abortions to be paid for by public funds under a health care reform bill?” Supporting it was only 27% of respondents, and 6% were unsure. Women opposed public funding in slightly greater numbers (68 percent -26 percent) than men (65 percent-29 percent). An even greater number were opposed to public funding of abortion, in December, when the health-care reform bills passed by the House and Senate looked on track to be reconciled and made law. Quinnipiac’s poll on December 22 showed respondents were against such a provision 72 percent-23 percent. Assistant Director Pat Brown said at the time that “allowing the use of public money for the procedure under a national health care plan, which has been a matter of some dispute in both houses of Congress, is extremely unpopular." Quinnipiac’s latest results came from a survey of 1,767 voters and carry a margin of error of +/- 2.3 percentage points
