Christian Web News - A couple in New York has been arrested for "failing to report they were home schooling".
In Montgomery County, New York, the Cressy family home schools all four children, ages 8 to 14. However, earlier this month, parents Margie and Richard were arrested by the county sheriff for allegedly failing to report to the local school district. The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has agreed to represent the family in court. The arrests came a week after the school district notified the family that they were in compliance. James Mason, senior council with HSLDA, says "There was an investigation and they were arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child -- and that's quite rare," he explains. "I've never heard of that in my experience in New York or anywhere else where that's happened." In the near future, an initial appearance before a judge will take place and a trial date will be determined at that point. Local news reports state that the parents were issued appearance tickets, and that the children were not removed from the family home.
