On July 19th, 17 year old Rifqa Bary ran away from home claiming that her father threatened to kill her for converting from Islam to Christianity. She spent more than three months living in Florida. For a little more than two weeks she stayed with the Rev. Blake Lorenz and his wife Beverly whom she met on facebook. The Lorenzes are now under criminal investigation, according to a court filing by a Children Services attorney, because they kept Rifqa too long without notifying authorities.

Rifqa went into foster care while a case was opened in a Florida court. Rifqa moved back to Columbus in October and two separate cases began in juvenile court. One to decide where she should live and the other to consider a complaint filed by her parents calling her unruly.

She admitted she was unruly in running away from home, and because of that she will not receive punishment such as fines or community service. The court decided that for now Rifqa would not have to move back home, and she and her parents agreed to try and solve their problems with counseling.

All parties in the case remain under a gag order. That issue is set for hearing Monday.
