Christian Web News - On Sunday, May 31st, while serving as an usher at the Reformation Lutheran Church, late term abortionist, Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed by 51-year-old Scott Roeder.

Roeder was taken into custody about three hours after, 170 miles away from the scene of the crime. Police said Sunday that all early indications showed the shooter acted alone.

Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed Sunday while serving as an usher at his church

Pro-life leaders from all over the country have condemned the murder of Dr. Tiller and offer their condolences to the family.

"We deplore the killing of George Tiller on Sunday morning," said Joseph M. Scheidler, national director of the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League.

"It has always been my philosophy that we convert abortionists," said Scheidler.

"As activists committed to saving lives, we vigorously oppose violence."

Scheidler once shared a taxi with Dr. Tiller as both were headed from the airport in New Orleans to the National Abortion Federation Convention.

"Having sat and talked with George Tiller, I probably feel a little more connection with him than many other pro-lifers might," said Scheidler. "I am adamantly opposed to what he did for a living. But I believe that anyone can come to the truth. Tiller deserved the chance to turn away from the evil of abortion. I cannot condone the taking of his life."

Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said, "The Susan B. Anthony List condemns this anti-life act in the strongest of terms. The heart of the pro-life movement is one founded in love. Without this driving powerful center no justice can possibly be achieved. Authentic progress in women's rights has always encompassed the protection of human rights of every person across the board. The rights of one human being can never be honored by diminishing or ignoring the rights of another. This week as we gather for our annual June Tea event, themed Love Lets Live, we will lift up George Tiller's loved ones in prayer."

"We cannot kill people in the name of pro- life." said Bryan Kemper, President of Stand True. "Answering the violence of abortion with more violence will not serve the babies or help the pro-life movement in any way."

While Stand True is committed to ending the killing of innocent children through abortion, we are committed to non-violent, peaceful action. The pro-life movement cannot take the law into their own hands and turn to vigilantly justice.

We are praying for the family of George Tiller and those in his church while he was shot. We know that healing can come through Jesus and pray those involved in the abortion industry will turn to Christ.

Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, the organization noted for their involvement with bring Dr. Tiller to trial over suspected illegal abortions earlier this year, released the following statement today:

“Scott Roeder has never been a member, contributor, or volunteer with Operation Rescue. Mr. Roeder may have posted to our open blog web site, as have thousands of members of the public, including those with pro-abortion views, but he is not affiliated with this organization.”

“We deplore the criminal actions with which Mr. Roeder is accused. The pro-life ethic is to value all human life from the moment of conception until natural death. Operation Rescue has diligently and successfully worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see to it that abortionists around the nation are brought to justice. Without due process, there can be no justice.”

“In spite of these horrific events, we remain dedicated to working through all peaceful and legal means available to bring an end to the killing of innocent children through abortion.”

Whatever the reason this misguided and unstable individual had for killing Dr. Tiller, it was not a pro-life action. Pro-life doesn’t mean against killing babies. It means against killing – PERIOD. We must remember what the Bible says. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12. Abortion is not a man or a woman or even a group of them. Abortion is a tool of the devil, one that he convinces humans to wield. Our job as pro-life Christians is to educate and convert those who support or even perform abortions. We are supposed to rescue the abortionist just as much as we are to rescue the unborn.

Scott Roeder’s actions will do nothing but hurt the pro-life life movement at a time that is becoming increasingly dangerous, not just for pro-lifers, but for all Christians. This heinous crime will be used to give credence to the Homeland Security’s report on “right-wing extremism.”

Diane Derzis, an abortion provider said on CNN today, “These people- the rhetoric these people espoused calls for our deaths, every day, in front of these clinics. You know, he’s saying that only because of the timing of this particular shooting....These people have put the target on our chest, on our backs....The people, by and large, who stand in front of these clinics every day have their own agenda, and that agenda is to do away with abortion in whatever way they can. The election of Barack Obama put them in a corner. They’re losing, and the only way they see to take care of this is to kill us. This is just the first of what I foresee as many more. “

Another cause for concern is the pending “hate crimes” bill . While the only group the bill protects for now is homosexuals, how long will it be before the legislation is extended to include other groups as well? Democrats have already confessed that under the current hate crimes bill, a pastor who preached against homosexuality could be convicted of a hate crime if someone hears his sermon and then commits an act of violence against a homosexual. Could pro-life groups be charged with hate crimes if someone shoots an abortionist or bombs a clinic?

"The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission will not allow pro- abortionists or their accomplices in the media to exploit the cowardly act of one misguided individual in order to defame millions of peaceful pro-lifers," said Dr. Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission. "Day and night millions of peaceful pro- lifers sacrificially serve women and their unborn babies. We will not tolerate any attempt to exploit this terrible event in order to further restrict pro-life activities or silence pro-life speech or reverse the gains pro-lifers have achieved in the law."

"Tiller's death at the hands of a lawless vigilante must be unequivocally condemned," said Cass. "But we cannot allow pro-abortion activists and politicians to use this tragedy to manipulate public opinion or our laws."

CWNEWZ asks that you please pray for the family of Dr. Tiller as they cope with the loss of a husband and father and for the community at the Reformation Lutheran Church.

Why Are You Fearful?

Why Are You Fearful?
Christian Web News - Jesus has a way of getting right to the point, doesn't He? There was certainly no mincing of words, He came right out and said, "why are you fearful?" and then went on to say, "O you of little faith." You don't have to read between the lines to see what He was saying, they had little faith.
