United Church of Christ to give out condoms at servicesChristian Web News - I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Jesus told the woman caught in adultery “Go and sin no more” not “Go and use a condom next time.” But, the United Church of Christ must be confused on this because they actually plan to distribute condoms in their churches to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The UCC is the descendent of the Puritan and Congregationalist traditions. But the denomination has consistently tried to detach itself from its heritage. Membership has dropped steadily, from 2.1 million in 1967 to 1.2 million today. The UCC lost six percent of its membership in the most recent year, according to the 2009 Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches. Frankly, I can’t say that I’m surprised.

According to UCC executive Michael Schuenemeyer, "The practice of safer sex is a matter of life and death. People of faith make condoms available because we have chosen life so that we and our children may live."

If you’re wondering what this guy is smoking, you’re not alone. The true matter of life and death is the condition of our souls, not whether or not we catch HIV while we’re being sexually promiscuous. The only safe sex is between husband and wife. If the UCC truly wants to put an end to HIV/AIDS, they need to get back to the Bible and start preaching the Gospel again. If a person gives their life to Christ and obeys God’s Word concerning sex, how then will that person contract HIV?
