National Holy Spirit Conference with Dr. Mark T. Barclay
Christian Web News - The Modern Church in America has a lot of things going for it. Unfortunately, the Holy Spirit isn’t always one of them. At the 2009 National Holy Spirit Conference, Dr. Mark T. Barclay talked about God’s presence, or lack thereof, in America’s churches.

There is a movement afoot in churches today. It has been called “seeker sensitive.” The problem with these seeker sensitive churches is that they’re throwing out the Holy Spirit because they are ashamed of Him. People are afraid that if they act a certain way or say certain things in the church service that they’ll scare away the visitors. The truth is, we should be known for signs and wonders. Dr. Barclay said, “When I was a seeker, let me tell you what I was seeking. I wasn’t seeking someone like me.”

We’ve become a powerless church who talks about revival but never has one. Giving humans what humans want isn’t a revival. But, that’s how much of the church thinks now. Over the past twenty-five years, the body of Christ has become self-edifying, self-centered, and self-indulgent thanks to many of its preachers and the “prosperity” doctrines they preach.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with prosperity. Dr. Barclay explained that some of these teaching were necessary and teaches some of these things himself because at one time, people erroneously believed that God wanted to bring you down to make you humble. The problem is that we’ve forgotten why God wants to make us prosper. God wants us to live a good life and use the excess He gives us to fund the Gospel. God doesn’t want to make us prosper so that we can be greedy and self-centered.

Now we’re restricting God in His own house because we think we need to impress the world. We’ve allowed the system of the world to seep in and change our values. Just like the world we’re chasing after things like money, position, image, and influence. The funny thing is, the world isn’t impressed.

Dr. Barclay says we’ve got to get our values back or we’re going to get weaker and weaker and weaker. We’ve got to have the power of the Holy Spirit if we are to survive the onslaught of darkness that is coming in these last days. The Holy Spirit was not given to us to make us feel good. The Holy Spirit was given to us so we can have the power to remove from our flesh the things that make us like everyone else. Of course, that’s not what many churchgoers want to hear these days. Too many people just want the preacher to stroke their egos and tell them they’re okay. Dr. Barclay said, “I keep telling people, this is no petting zoo.”

Living A Christ Life

Why Are You Fearful?

Why Are You Fearful?
Christian Web News - Jesus has a way of getting right to the point, doesn't He? There was certainly no mincing of words, He came right out and said, "why are you fearful?" and then went on to say, "O you of little faith." You don't have to read between the lines to see what He was saying, they had little faith.

Redeemed from the Curse Pt. 1
Christian Web News - Galatians 3:13-14.  Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree''), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
