cwnewz - A lawsuit has been filed by an international faith-based organization against the Cobb County school system for the right to use school facilities free of charge.
Child Evangelism Fellowship is accusing the district of violating First Amendment rights since they are no longer allowing the group to host after-school meetings in classrooms, free of charge.
Friday, Mathew Staver, an Orlando-based attorney representing CEF, said if boy scouts can use school facilities without being charged, faith-based groups should have the same right.
The suit also argues that groups shouldn’t be forced to use school facilities later in the day. They should be able to use them immediately after school.
The district’s policy on use of school facilities distinguishes between two types of groups that may use schools after hours. You can find this on the districts website.
Category 1 groups include organizations such as PTAs, scouts or sports feeder programs. These groups do not have to pay fees. Category 2 includes other nonprofit groups. These groups must complete an application and pay fees to use the buildings.
The school systems attorneys would not comment on the lawsuit.
Christian Web News - Galatians 3:13-14. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree''), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Christian Web News - Often when we talk about sin, we use lots of examples such as abortion, homosexuality, murder, substance abuse - I could go on and on. However, I want to direct this little three letter word to the Christian who is serving God and can tell a sinner all about his or her sin. We use to call it “pointing the finger” at someone who does so many bad things.
