The Rev. Robert A. Schuller leaves his father's Garden Grove church Crystal Cathedral and plans to open his own ministry.
The Rev. Robert A. Schuller who was relieved in October as the preacher of the long-running Christian television program "Hour of Power," has now resigned as the senior pastor at the Crystal Cathedral and is planning to start his own ministry.
The Church founder of the Crystal Cathedral Robert H. Schuller removed his son as being the sole preacher of the television show after his son who had been doing the praeching for three years into the job refused to rotate his role with other pastors, according to the church.
The Rev. Robert A. Schuller was given the chance to stay on as a Crystal Cathedral pastor the role his father said he expected him to keep, but left the Garden Grove church in late November.
The Rev. Robert A.Schuller has just recently returned from a speaking in Brazil and has declined to be interviewed. Church officials say they do not know about his plans.
"We haven't really been made privy to that," said Rick Mysse, a pastor with the Schullers denomination, the Reformed Church of America, who oversees the Crystal Cathedral and some 60 other churches in Southern California.
"We know he's been working diligently on plans. It's probably a bit premature. We're giving him plenty of time," Mysse said. "It's just a question of when he wants to announce it. Frankly, that's his business."
According to Mysse there are 25 pastors lined up to speak on "Hour of Power," and a few of them have already recorded shows for the TV program.
Crystal Cathedral spokesman Michael Nason said that Rev. Robert A.Schuller has remained in good standing with his denomination. "He remains a pastor within the Reformed Church of America," he said.
Nason also said the his father Robert H. Schuller would not be discussing the parting with his son in any interviews do to it being to personal. The departure from the church and TV show has stemmed from a "lack of shared vision" between Robert H. Schuller and Robert A. Schuller Nason said and discouraged speculation that it was more complicated.
