An Israeli archaeologist on Wednesday said he had unearthed what he believes to be the tombs which had held a wife and daughter-in-law of the biblical King Herod.
Ehud Netzer of Jerusalem's Hebrew University provided possibly new evidence from lavish lifestyle of the Roman-era monarch also known as the "King of the Jews", Herod.
Herod was the Roman-anointed king who ruled Judea from 37 BC until his death in 4 BC and has had a special part in biblical history of Jesus Christs birth. Herod is also known for the rebuilding of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem which has made him a focus of study in the Jewish state of Israel.
From the Gospel of Matthew it says Herod ordered the "Massacre of the Innocents," which was the killing of all male infants in Jesus' birthplace of Bethlehem, out of fear of losing his throne to the Messiah.
Netzer who is an authority on Herodian excavations, showed reporters portions of two limestone sarcophagi which he says had contained remains of one of Herod's wives, Malthace, and a daughter-in-law.
He claims that another sarcophagus he found at the site in 2007 was Herod's tomb and this supports his findings. At that time some experts had said that the evidence seemed inconclusive.
Christian Web News - Jesus has a way of getting right to the point, doesn't He? There was certainly no mincing of words, He came right out and said, "why are you fearful?" and then went on to say, "O you of little faith." You don't have to read between the lines to see what He was saying, they had little faith.
Christian Web News - Galatians 3:13-14. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree''), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
