October is Pastor Appreciation MonthOctober is Pastor Appreciation month with an emphasis for Pastor Appreciation Day on October 12th.  Here is a list of five things you can do to encourage and uplift your pastor.

  1. Pray For Him Regularly.
Ask him how you can pray for him and then remember to keep your word by following through.  Pastors are encouraged when they know that church members are praying for him and for his specific needs.
  2. Treat Your Pastor with Respect.
German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote: "If you treat a person as he is, he will stay as he is; but if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be, he will become what he ought to be and could be." Remember, your pastor is human and will make mistakes. Treat him well and it will help him grow.
  3. Express appreciation in writing.
A spoken compliment is always welcome, but a written one can be read over and over again for years. Therefore, when you hear or see something you like from your minister, write, email or text message an appreciative note.
  4. Be openly responsive.
There isn't anything that encourages a pastor as much as seeing people respond to his preaching and teaching.
  5. Openly Thank Him and Recognize Him.
Go to your church leaders and remind them that October is Pastor Appreciation month.  Help plan a public recognition service or set aside time publicly to thank your pastor for his contribution and leadership.

Remember, God calls the pastor.  He is there in your church as a servant and as shepherd over the church because that is where God has placed him.
