According to an article written by Joey Digugliemo written September 12, 2008 and printed in the Washington Blade, a Gay and Lesbian news source, Gospel singer, Ray Boltz, has openly admitted that he is “gay.” This is a description by some meaning homosexual.
Mr. Diguglielmo began his article stating that “Ray Boltz wanted to do something nice,” suggesting that letting others know you are a homosexual is a good thing without identifying what or who that good thing is to impact.
Thousands of Christians remember Ray Boltz for his hit songs like “Thank You,” “Watch the Lamb,” “The Anchor Holds,” and “I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb.”
Mr. Diguglielmo’s article does an extensive overview of the gospel singer’s rise to celebrity status in the Christian music industry as well as his accomplishments, recognitions and awards along the way. He even mentions the names of music stars like Amy Grant, Sandi Patty, Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman. Perhaps this is a way to make the so-called “coming out” of Ray Boltz a more acceptable and plausible admission for being homosexual. His article states “an innocuous (an adjective meaning harmless; dull; insipid; uninteresting) thing to do, but for Boltz it was a big step.”
The article details how Mr. Boltz “visited the mostly gay Jesus Metropolitan Community Church in Indianapolis and liked Rev. Jeff Miner” in December 2007 and gave him a copy of his 1997 holiday recording, “A Christmas Album” with a note containing his e-mail address. According the Diguglielmo’s article it was three years earlier on December 26, 2004 that Boltz told his family “what had been bothering him for so many years.”
According to an interview the article quotes Ray Boltz “I’d denied it (being homosexual) ever since I was a kid. I became a Christian, I thought that was the way to deal with this and I prayed hard and tried for 30-some years and then at the end, I was just going, ‘I’m still gay. I know I am.’”
About his family’s reaction, Boltz would go on to say “It was a very tough time for them too, but the bottom line was they loved me and they still love me … it’s been an amazing journey of acceptance on their part … I was offered support and love from each member of my family, including my wife.” According to the article, Ray Boltz and his wife, Carol, separated in the summer of 2005, just a few short months following his “coming out” announcement.
Mr. Diguglielmo’s article states further: “His faith was in transition –tenants he’d adhered to all his life suddenly were up for reconsideration but there was a peace he hadn’t felt before. … I had a lot of questions [about faith], but at the bottom of everything was a feeling that I didn’t hate myself anymore, so in that sense I felt closer to God. … If you were to hold up the rule book and go, ‘Here are all the rules Christians must live by,’ did I follow every one of those rules all that time? Not at all, you know, because I kind of rejected a lot of things, but I’ve grown some even since then. I guess I felt that the church, that they had it wrong about how I felt with being gay all these years, so maybe they had it wrong about a lot of other things.”
The article quotes Joe Hogue, a former producer for CCM in Nashville with acts like Carman, DC Talk, BeBe and CeCe Winans and others, and himself a divorced homosexual who worked with Boltz on his 1991 album “Another Child to Hold” and has helped him record a few new songs, says “he hopes for a day when Christians will see homosexuality as no more a perceived sin than it used to be for women to be ministers or for divorced Christians to hold leadership positions in churches.’
Diguglielmo’s article says Ray Boltz “doesn’t want to get into debates about scripture and has no plans to ‘go into First Baptist or an Assembly of God church and run there and say, ‘I’m gay and you need to love me anyway.’”
Although Ray Boltz evidently stated “I basically lived an ‘ex-gay’ life –I read every book, I read all the scriptures they use, I did everything to try and change,” his reaction and response suggest his understanding of those scriptures were void of spiritual discernment. The Amplified Bible renders First Corinthians 2:14, “But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them –of progressively recognizing, understanding and becoming better acquainted with them- because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.”
Not only the tragedy of the life of Ray Boltz but of so many others is revealed in Mr. Diguglielmo’s article. Thousands of people, in and out of the church population, are seeking to understand and apply the Holy, infallible, inerrant Word of God without having experienced a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. That relationship is a product not of commitment as suggested by Mr. Boltz but that of faith which is unconditional surrender of your life to Christ who is thus the Answer to all our needs, sexually and otherwise.

I am shocked at the coming out of Ray Boltz the man is an Icon in Christian Music. Most will say that their is nothing wrong with being a gay person let a lone being Christian. Read about Sodom and Gommorah the reason God destroyed the city was because of the homsexual and sodomy that had taken place. What bigger smack in the face could you have for Christ than to embrace such a lifestyle in the name of Christ. Pray for Ray that God will open his eyes.
to all Christians...Can any of us possibly look at the world today and say that "Christ return isn't very near?" People will be calling that which is wrong and saying it is right. I can honestly say that I am not shock by this news. How can any of us be? Jesus warned us about the way the world and his own church would be in the end. May we be always ready and watching. Satan is on the prowl and desprate for souls. I will be praying for him and his family, but I will also be praying like never before that God will find me faithful to him upon his return.

I have struggled with the lifestyle for all of my life. I don't remember my first experience but I was four or five years old. I was obsessed most of my life. I was born again in 1970 and was Spirit filled shortly thereafter. I have struggled to overcome for the past 37 years. Recently I received the Grace teaching of Joseph Prince and am finally free. I was trying to live by the law. Trying to change by my efforts, but it will never happen with any sin. Jesus already forgave and sees us as righteous. Get this revelation and you will see God set you free!

I was a pastor for 15 yrs 93-08.During this time I did a 3hr radio show every sat night for the last ten yrs featuring CCM. We would play many favorite artist like our beloved Ray Boltz.Because of the radio show I had every year a backstage media pass to interview all the famous artist performing at the Kingdom Bound Christian festival in Buffalo NY.I was given the opportunity one time ,to be the only one, to interview Ray Boltz back stage in his quarters.I was amazed as I stood before this great and mighty man of God as he opened up to me that he was just an ordinary man as myself with many difficulties and complications.Now I know what he was trying to tell me.During the time of the interview I felt a strangeness and a darkness about him .I thought it was just me.I just found out about the devastating news on RB.God's hand continually reaches out to us,we decide to hold on or let go.God's love,Grace and Mercy endures forever for those who are repentant.I know, I fail God daily!
My heart was broken when my pastor shared about Ray Boltz coming out and telling the world he is gay. I'm reminded what Jesus said that in the last days even believers would stray from the truth. I'm also reminded that Gods word tells us when a brother is over taken with a fault, we as christians should lift him up to our Heavenly Father and pray he will be restored! Remember, God hates sin not the sinner! Be not deceived, satan in these last days is getting desperate. According to Gods word the world is living on borrowed time! His words in Revelations tells us to WATCH and PRAY!

i pains me to hear this news,,,it's true that we are all sinners saved by grace,,,that also means that we are not to continue sinning nor to let sin reign in our lives,,,in Galatians 5:24,"Those who belong to Christ have crucified the sinful nature w/ its passions & desires" & in Gal 2:20," The life i live in the body I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me & saved me",,, God in His power can save Ray if he will just acknowledge Christ As his Lord & Saviour by faith in truth, for God is faithful to fulfill His promise in Gal 5:1 "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free"
You have no right to judge as to who goes to hell and who doesn't. That is a basic fundamental teaching in the Bible. You need to read Dennis Jernagan's website on how to Biblically respond to this whole Ray Boltz situation. Remember "Biblically" . . . .you profess to be an authority . . . your own soul is in jeopardy with such hatred. Your post contains no evidence of the fruits of the Spirit . . . not one!!! You bear rotten fruit.
He can still change. Its not too late. If you struggle with this fleshly sinful disire, you can still ask God to help you. This may be something he struggles within his flesh, and if he cannot overcome this, he needs to obstain from men and the lifestyles of it. God can change anyone, if they are willing to change.

I am sad in reading this not because of Ray's struggle or admission, but because this is another example that divides Christians and that non Christians will point to as a reason that they will deny Jesus! If Ray has truly accepted Christ as his savior he will NOT go to hell becasue of this, becasue we as Christians can still sin. Isn't this what Paul meant when he lamented that he still did what was wrong even though he knew what was right, the battle of the flesh against the Holy Spirit within us? Ray and non Christians need our prayers and love, not judgement.
Ray Boltz's decision of who he will serve is tragic. Comparing the divorce/women in the pulpit issues is absurd hermeneutics. Rejecting Scripture's clear teaching is worse. "Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders...will inherit the kingdom of God." I Corinthians 6:9b-10 NIV. Nonetheless, Ray Boltz needs our prayers not hate.
Being Gay doesn't mean that he is going to Hell. That is a judgement no one on Earth is qualified to make. Mr. Boltz obviously has GOD given talents that are and have done great works for God. None of us are above sin. "Hate the sin, love the sinner" God still loves this man because Ray Boltz is still a believer in God. He has issues to work out with God, but God doesn't love him any less.
It is such a shame that this man had to go most of his life lying to himself, his family and lying before God. Is seems to be finally at peace and now closer to God. I feel such sorrow and will pray for all those who condemn this man for being gay.

Reading such feedback from fellow Christians, I am reminded of Ghandi's words "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians". Christians today are in desperate need of saving themselves.
when I first heard this i was angry,with Ray Boltz, I know it is wrong BUT instead of debating how wrong he is lets all pray he will turn back to God, we all have strayed, and he needs to repent and come back to God, so please lets ALL cry out for God to bring Ray Boltz back to God and his family,remember pray changes things!!!
For someone to say that Christians do not understand what the Bible says about Homosexuality due to their misinterpretation of the scriptures, is ludicrous on ALL levels. HOMOSEXUALITY IS A SIN! PERIOD! No gray area, no compromise, nothing, nada. If you are gay, you are deceived and going STRAIGHT to hell! You do not pass Go, you do not collect 200 reason's to justify it as "of the Lord". NO ONE is BORN GAY, that is a choice one makes. and yes it is in the Word of God, God destroyed cities, Sodom and Gomorrah for one, for homosexuality and sexual perversion, gay is sexual perversion, God created man and woman to replenish the earth, He never created 2 men or 2 women. He never meant for that to ever be. the Word also says that its better to have a millstone around your neck than to let one of Gods ppl fall, and the 1000's that got saved from Rays ministry, some will fromit.
I love the argument that Jesus did not directly speak on Homosexuality, therefore it is not a sin. Jesus also didn't speak directly to cheating on a test, so I guess that's not a sin either. Furthermore, if you believe the Bible was divinely inspired, then you have to accept that Jesus, being part of the Trinity, did directly speak on Homosexuality the many times it is mentioned in the Bible.
Christians...brother Ray included, we're in a battle and it will be that way for us who are willing to go with GOD rather than fulfil our fleshly desires-giving way to sin. It's no time to give it up now. Our lives will be over in just a little while.Go with God and He will keep you and make a way of escape for you. Lasting Peace only comes by doing our Fathers will. I'm happy for Ray Boltz and his family even though it is a very difficult life event to go through. I tried the ex-gay ministries and Homosexuals Anonymous meetings, etc. I am saddened by how so amy Christians misinterpret scripture. I find it very scary. God Bless you Ray Boltz and your family.
Should Romans 1:26-27 be stricken from the Bible? Obviously if homosexuality is NOT sin then Paul is wrong here. And his statements in 1 Corinthians 6:9 regarding "effeminate" are wrong as well. Apparently we are to pick and choose what the Holy Spirit REALLY inspired Paul to write. But, of course, that is not really an option. The Christian has the mind of Christ, and Christian's don't contradict what the inspired Apostles write. Homosexuality IS sin, both from the Scriptural texts and from the historical revelation of Church history. If I'm wrong, show me from Scripture or Church history.
Bearing false witness?? It is one thing to deny that you struggle in a certain sin area--quite another to say, this is my weakness, my besetting sin and I will fight it with all that the Spirit enables me to do. Sin is sin is sin. We are all born sinners with our own areas of vulnerability. If some famous Christian comes out and says, "Hey, I struggle with homosexuality--but I struggle. I fight the good fight. I'm not giving in to my fleshly desires!" I would applaud him/her. This is not what Ray has done.

There was certainly no mincing of words, He came right out and said, "why are you fearful?" and then went on to say, "O you of little faith." You don't have to read between the lines to see what He was saying, they had little faith.
