Jesus is He Truth or Fiction?Easter is a time for remembering our Lord’s sacrifice and celebrating His resurrection.  During this season, we are bombarded with numerous documentaries on the television’s “educational” channels.

The vast majority of these informative exposes are the intellectual’s attempts to disprove the resurrection. They parade endless scholars across the screen to deny the power of the resurrection and mock the foundation of our faith. Have you noticed any documentaries maligning or mocking other religions? Notice any mockery about Mohammed or Buddha on any educational programs lately?

In a strange way, these documentaries strengthen my faith. Why would these individuals want to spend so much time and money to attempt to destroy my faith? Why would the enemies of God want so desperately to deny His Son, yet not put forth the same effort to mock the faiths of the Muslim or Buddhist? Intriguing, isn’t it? I can’t help but wonder why these “scholars” are so angry with God.

These scholars, some with the title of Reverend, will spout ages-old theories as the basis for their disbelief. Some of what the listener will hear will be the following:

  • The Swoon Theory

Jesus didn’t really die on the cross. He fainted and then was placed in the tomb, later to come to himself and move the possible 2 ton stone by Himself. After having performed this miracle,  He left the tomb and was hidden by the disciples to fake His resurrection. Remember that Jesus had been scourged, beaten, nailed to a cross, hung there from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and then had a spear thrust into His side to prove that He had died. His moving the stone Himself would have been quite a feat. Sounds like it would take great faith to believe in this theory.

  • The Forgotten Tomb Theory

Jesus’ followers forgot where they buried Him and went to the wrong tomb. If that is the case, certainly Joseph of Arimathea, could have helped them locate it. After all, it was his family tomb. And if they forgot where the tomb was, why didn’t the chief priest and others produce the real tomb with the body of Jesus? Matthew 28:12-14 states that the disappearance of the body was evident to the priests and the Romans.

  • The Stolen Body Theory

Jesus’ disciples came in the middle of the night and stole the body. This was the first lie told. There was a Roman seal on the tomb. Breaking the seal insured a death sentence. There were guards stationed at the tomb. To fall asleep on duty meant a sentence of death for the soldier. Also remember that the disciples were afraid of their shadow. They were behind locked doors for fear of their very lives. I don’t think they were going to take on a group of rough and trained Roman guards.

Last year there was a new “discovery” in Israel. They had found the lost tomb of Jesus. His remains were still in the tomb. This hoax broke every rule of archaeology and was quickly denounced around the globe by learned men in every field. Watch the new documentary coming out soon that refutes the claims of this recent “discovery.” www.thelostjesustombhoax.com

There will always be new attempts  to mock and deny the claim of Jesus’ miraculous resurrection. Men and women will decide for themselves what they wish to believe. Some will say that there should be more evidence from sources other than the Bible. They’re there. Read the accounts of historians from around the time of Jesus. Men like, Josephus, Tacitus, Pliny the Younger, and Suetonius.

In the end, I can appreciate all the undeniable evidence of the claim of Jesus’resurrection, but really for me, the greatest evidence is what He has done for me in my life. “You ask me how I know He lives, He lives within my heart!
